Editing
Process

After sitting through roughly an hour's worth of footage I had a huge task of condensing all of that down to roughly 1 and a half minutes. (This was my target time for my trailer).

About an hr and 15 mins of fottage.JPG

I then dragged in all the clips I wanted to use within the trailer. From there I realised I wanted the start of my trailer to be presented by a movie studio. For this I used my Adsmedia logo and used after effects to create an interesting logo revel.

I really wanted to start the trailer off strong so I did spend roughly 3 hours trying to make this. Below you can see each layer / Step I used to make this. (I did follow a youtube tutorial)

This is each layer that was made to generate this effect. In order to create the logo fill / outline I did an auto trace on it. Which can be found in the layer menu at the bottom. From there it auto generated the strokes / reflections / colours to match with the logo.

This little collage is each layer, scene, assets and comps I used to make the logo revel. As you can see there's a lot to it!! Hence why I followed a guide. I also had to install a Saber plug in to generate the neon lines within the project. Luckily it was a free plugin and was very easy to install.

Each scene consisted of moving smoke, lens blurs and the rest!

From this I then decided to do all of the after effects shots now while It was open. This is now how I made my UAV drone shot of the woods. This effect took me a while but was fairly easy due to having a really useful Youtube video to follow along with.

This video provided it's assets to use, these included the military ops camera assets. Which I will show below some examples.

This video briefly shows each layer that went into making this effect. It also shows the before and after which you can also preview down below. I used tone curves to adjust the brightness and contrast, I used a zoomed, distorted effect with a target to sell the effect it was a UAV going up into the air. Along with a mosaic effect at the start to show the 'transmission' between the video link and the drone.

Timeline

Below are images of my timeline for the trailer itself, After making everything I need to I then imported it all into a new project. From there I brought in the Logo revel to start it off and from there worked my way around each of the clips to suit the style I wanted. Each clip needed colour grading and paring with the song. However in the trailers I had done my research on to build up the tension they provide some clips to get it started and then drop the music. I wanted to replicate this is in mine. So I started off with (myself / Mike Harper) gearing up ready. From there I then dropped the song and matched some of my favourite shots to the song. As easy as this sounds it did take over 3 days to edit, these were roughly 11 hour days of purely just working.

Disolve effect.JPG

The simple cross dissolve was a simple but effective transition to show off the main character in a mean and menacing way as well as showing of the armoury

The first blue clip was the logo revel, followed by in house shots of myself gearing up then cuts to black and boom the music kick starts and the following clips flow throughout the song!

For the ending clip I wanted to show off another movie poster of mine, to make this transition seam cool, I decided to use a glitch transition to sell the effect.

Colour Grading

Below are some before and after of the colour grades that I applied

Colour grading is a huge part of how your final outcome will be like, it sets the tonne of the film along with the mood. I believe I picked the perfect grades for what I was trying to show within the trailer. I wanted to make sure I made the clips more yellow lenient, this was due to the radioactive world my character was in. Also it worked really well with the clips I had the only exceptions were the clips of the forest where I was led down and running. I felt these clips looked a lot better with there own twist on it. It also gave the overall trailer some more colours to look at which from a viewers perspective is more pleasant.

Below are some colour pallets from a few scenes within my trailer.

All clips 500% times faster.JPG

I then condensed down all of the footage so if you would like to see all of the raw clips you may. However I did speed up the clips to 500% so it wasn't an hour long video. (See below for the video)
